Eligibility Requirements
Your Canada Life Case Manager will transition your Short-Term Disability (STD) claim to Long-Term Disability (LTD) if needed—no separate application required.
The Case Manager will notify you if any additional medical information is required.
Income Offsets
The LTD benefit will be reduced if you receive other income, including:
Canada Pension Plan (CPP): Offset applies only to the primary benefit.
WorkSafeBC Benefits: All wage loss benefits are deducted, except permanent partial disability awards received for at least 12 months prior to the disability.
Recurring Disability Rules
If you return to work but earn less than 280 hours within 180 days, the disability will be treated as a continuation of your previous claim.
If you earn 280+ hours, any new illness or injury will be treated as a new claim.

Your benefits will stop under the following conditions:
Not Disabled: You are no longer considered disabled.
Medical Care Ends: You stop receiving care from a qualified healthcare provider.
